Climate targets

As a leading shopping centre in the middle of Graz city centre, we show responsibility for people, the region and the environment – today and for future generations. For many years, CITYPARK has consistently focused on energy efficiency, proactive climate protection, alternative energy sources and sustainable mobility. Our aim is not only to be a sustainable company in the long term, but also to motivate all those involved to develop their own commitment and to help shape our common future in a positive way!

Eco-friendly solar power through photovoltaic system

A large-scale photovoltaic system with more than 2,000 panels on around 3,900 m² went into operation on the roofs of CITYPARK at the end of September 2022. When in full operation, it is expected to generate 890,000 kilowatt hours of green electricity annually and thus save 500,000 kg of C0².

TÃœV AUSTRIA certified energy management system

SES Spar European Shopping Centers introduced an energy management system in accordance with EN ISO 50001:2018 for its Austrian shopping centres in 2019. This was successfully recertified by TÃœV AUSTRIA. At the same time, the energy management system was rolled out to all SES shopping malls in Slovenia and Italy.

Mobility and accessibility

Environmentally friendly to CITYPARK

Excellent public transport connections, a wide range of facilities for cyclists and a modern infrastructure for electric vehicles guarantee that our customers can travel to the centre in an eco-friendly way. Already around 50% of our customers come to our centre by public transport, on foot or by bike.

Sustainable mobility

E-charging points for cars, bicycles and scooters

Electromobility is a priority at CITYPARK.

Eight charging stations for e-bikes and e-scooters are available free of charge in the pedestrian zone. In cooperation with Energie Graz, 10 modern fast-charging stations for e-cars have been created. (multi-storey car park A/level 1) The CITYPARK e-car at Lazarettgürtel in cooperation with “family of power” can be rented at favourable prices.

The future belongs to electromobility.

Public transport accessibility

Bus, train or tram

Take the bus, train or tram to CITYPARK in an environmentally friendly way.

CITYPARK is excellently connected to the public transport network. Three bus lines run directly to and from CITYPARK, and another four lines are about a four-minute walk away. The “Don Bosco” S-Bahn stop is in the immediate vicinity and, due to its inner-city location, CITYPARK is also easily and quickly accessible on foot.

A connection to the tram is being planned. (south-west line)

Sustainable & comfortable

Cyclists welcome

For years, CITYPARK has placed special emphasis on one thing: making the arrival and stay of cyclists as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

A total of 300 bicycle parking spaces are arranged around the entrances and exits, most of which are covered and equipped with spoke- and rim-protecting bars. There are separate parking spaces for cargo bikes. Two bicycle service boxes help with minor repairs. This consistent orientation combined with many additional services has already earned CITYPARK the award “most bicycle-friendly shopping centre in Styria” several times. (Argus Styria)

Energy management – with system

CITYPARK has been working with an ISO-certified energy management system since 2019, which was recertified by TÃœV AUSTRIA in 2022. Our energy consumption is continuously analysed and measures are taken to save energy and increase energy efficiency. Energy consumption in our centre has been reduced by 30% over the past 10 years.

Energy savings

Construction measures

Buildings and infrastructure of CITYPARK are continuously optimised with regard to energy saving possibilities. The connection to the regional district heating network, the renewal of air conditioning and ventilation units to reduce energy consumption or improve energy recovery, the installation of water-saving urinals are just a few examples of measures to improve the climate balance.

LED lighting

Energy efficient lighting

Although the conversion costs money initially, it saves electricity later on. Saving energy means protecting the climate! CITYPARK has therefore been using LED lighting since 2015. The general areas of the centre and the car parks have been completely converted to LED lighting. Numerous light sensors control all lighting modules depending on the brightness of the day.

Demand-based ventilation optimisation

Cheap Air

Less talking, more action! Another practical example of climate-friendly operation is a ventilation control system adapted to the number of visitors in the centre. It was developed by SES and perfectly adapts the air quality in the mall to the requirements.

Increase in waste separation rate

Efficient waste management

Lack of waste separation is bad for the environment and also expensive! With the introduction of a residual waste weighing system, the amount of residual waste was reduced by 40%. Used cooking oil from the catering businesses is processed into ecologically sustainable biodiesel. In cooperation with the city of Graz and the environmental agency, the waste separation rate of customers indoors and outdoors was increased by offering a more targeted range of different waste containers.

People & Society

Helping where help is needed. Create awareness and educate. We take on social responsibility!

Whether through long-term cooperation with regional associations or various charity campaigns. Events with a focus on regionality and sustainability are just as much a part of CITYPARK’s DNA as re-use and second-hand markets or flea markets.
